The final day of IFYC25 successfully combined historical exploration of Almagro, collaborative reflection, and cultural celebration. It marked a fitting end to a transformative week, reinforcing the conference’s core values of learning, connection, and shared responsibility for the future.
The final day of the conference began early in the morning with a bus journey from Almadén to Almagro. Upon arrival at IES Antonio Calvín, the visiting students were welcomed by the local school community. As part of the introductory session, the international delegations once again presented their cities and schools, offering local students a deeper insight into this outstanding Erasmus+ project and its objectives.
Following the school visit, participants embarked on a guided tour of Almagro’s historic city center. The tour included notable landmarks such as the Plaza Mayor, a central square that reflects the architectural influence of the Fugger family, who introduced Flemish design elements during their tenure in the region. The group also visited the Corral de Comedias de Almagro, the best-preserved example of a 17th-century open-air theatre in Spain. Additional highlights included the Iglesia de San Blas, where Jakob Fugger’s name is inscribed on the entrance portal, and the Fugger Palace, a key site in the town’s historical narrative.
Lunch was enjoyed in a local restaurant alongside the Spanish delegation, providing an opportunity for informal exchange and reflection. Afterwards, students spent time in the Plaza Mayor, where they purchased souvenirs and captured group photos to commemorate the experience.

In the afternoon, the group reconvened at the Fugger Palace for the final conference session. This included an online evaluation using a word cloud tool, followed by a collaborative working phase in which students created posters summarizing the week’s key themes.
These were presented in the palace courtyard, with each group sharing their insights on mercury, environmental issues, and the legacy of the Fugger family. The presentations demonstrated the depth of learning and engagement achieved throughout the conference.
The day concluded with a farewell party in Almadén. The event featured food and refreshments prepared by host families, as well as music and dancing. A certificate ceremony was held to recognize participants’ contributions, accompanied by brief speeches expressing gratitude to the host families and to Francisco Cabrera Sánchez, the lead organizer of IFYC25. The evening provided a joyful and heartfelt conclusion to a week filled with intercultural exchange, academic enrichment, and lasting friendships.
