Tracing resources: From Jakob Fugger into the future
The International Fugger Youth Conference 2026 (IFYC26) in Banská Bystrica is designed as a dynamic, engaging, and truly unique international experience. From the moment participants arrive and share a welcome dinner, a strong sense of community begins to grow, further enhanced during the Family Day.
On Monday, participants are introduced to the program and to each other through presentations about their home countries and their historical connections to Jakob Fugger. Interactive activities and a reception at the town hall create a lively atmosphere. A key highlight is the exploration of the region’s mining history and the role of the Fugger family, combined with hands-on activities such as public surveys and a guided city discovery.
Tuesday offers an immersive look at mining, past and present. Students explore a historic mine, learn about environmental challenges, and visit the UNESCO site of Banská Štiavnica.
On Wednesday, the focus shifts to modern issues: raw materials in everyday devices like smartphones and the importance of recycling are explored through workshops and a visit to a recycling company.
The conference concludes with collaborative presentations, allowing participants to share insights and propose ideas, making it a powerful platform for learning, exchange, and creativity.
