Tree Planting Campaign in Sterzing

On the morning of 13th of June, our project group hit the road to plant our 10 trees to compensate for the project travels we undertook during our mobilities. The local forest rangers first gave us some information about the forest here in South Tyrol – 44% of our region is actually covered with forests that have to be looked after and protected. They also described the various types of deciduous trees they had brought (lime tree, maple tree, mountain ash and others) and gave us some details about the problem of the bark beetle that’s been haunting our forests for a while now.

Afterwards we planted some of the trees in our two school gardens. Accompanied by the responsible counselor from the municipality, Mr Heinrich Forer, and equipped with shovels and picks, we then took a short hiking trip on a pilgrims’ path in our town and placed the rest of the trees along the path next to the community garden of Sterzing.

We finished our short trip with some delicious well-deserved ice cream!
